Sidhu Moosewala murder accused Mandeep Toofan, Manmohan Singh die in clash between inmates in Punjab jail

On the morning of April 21, 2021, news broke out of a fatal clash between inmates in a Punjab jail, resulting in the death of two inmates. One of them was Mandeep Toofan, accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. The other was Manmohan Singh, a convict serving life imprisonment.
The incident occurred at the Nabha jail in Patiala district of Punjab, where both the inmates were lodged in separate cells. According to the jail authorities, there was a dispute between the two inmates, which soon escalated into a physical fight. In the altercation, both of them sustained severe injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they were declared dead.
The police are currently investigating the matter and trying to ascertain the exact cause of the clash. However, it is believed that the fight was triggered by a dispute over the use of a mobile phone. It is also being speculated that the fight was pre-planned and that Mandeep Toofan was the instigator.
Mandeep Toofan was an accused in the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead in April 2020. He was arrested in October 2020 and was currently lodged in the Nabha jail. Manmohan Singh, on the other hand, was serving life imprisonment for the murder of a woman.
The police are looking into the matter and are also trying to ascertain if there was any involvement of outside elements in the clash. The incident has sent shockwaves across Punjab and has once again highlighted the need for better security arrangements in the state’s prisons.
This is not the first time that a clash between inmates has resulted in fatalities. In the past, several such incidents have been reported in the state, highlighting the lack of security arrangements in the jails. It is high time that the authorities take stringent measures to ensure the safety of inmates and prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
