Pawan Khera arrest LIVE: BJP govt tried to harass him, says Cong’s chief Kharge

The Congress party has accused the BJP government of trying to harass its leader Pawan Khera after he was arrested in connection with a criminal case. Khera, who is the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, was taken into custody by the Delhi Police on Wednesday.

The Congress party has strongly condemned the arrest of Khera, saying that it was a “malicious and politically motivated” action aimed at “harassing and intimidating” its leader.

The party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said that the BJP government was “desperately trying to find a scapegoat” in Khera to “hide its own misdeeds and failures”. He also accused the BJP of using the Delhi Police to “intimidate and harass” its political opponents.

The Congress party’s leader in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, also condemned the arrest and said that the BJP was trying to “muzzle the voice of dissent”. He also alleged that the BJP was using the Delhi Police to target its political opponents.

Khera was arrested in connection with a criminal case registered against him in October last year. He was accused of allegedly making provocative speeches during a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in New Delhi.

Khera was released on bail later in the day. He has denied the charges against him and said that the arrest was a “political vendetta”.

The Congress party has demanded that the BJP government should immediately withdraw the case against Khera and stop its “vindictive politics”. It has also urged the government to ensure that the Delhi Police works in a “fair and impartial manner”.
